It will dissolve\u00a0ethyl cellulose,\u00a0polyvinyl butyral, many oils, alkaloids, gums and natural resins.\u00a0Unlike\u00a0ethanol\u00a0or\u00a0methanol, isopropyl alcohol is not miscible with salt solutions and can be separated from\u00a0aqueous solutions\u00a0by adding a salt such as\u00a0sodium chloride. The process is colloquially called\u00a0salting out, and causes concentrated isopropyl alcohol to separate into a distinct layer.[8]<\/p>\n<p>Isopropyl alcohol forms an\u00a0azeotrope\u00a0with water, which gives a boiling point of 80.37\u00a0\u00b0C (176.67\u00a0\u00b0F) and a composition of 87.7 wt% (91 vol%) isopropyl alcohol.
