There are more than 400 lavender species in the world with different scents and properties. Two forms are distinguished: lavender flower oil, a colorless oil, insoluble in water, with a density of 0.885 g\/ml; and lavender spike oil, a distillate of the herb Lavandula latifolia, with a density of 0.905 g\/ml. Like all essential oils, it is not a pure compound; it is a complex mixture of phytochemicals including linalool and linalyl acetate.<\/p>\n<p>Lavender oil has long been used as a perfume, in aromatherapy and in skin applications.:\u200a184\u2013186\u200a Lavender oil is used in massage therapy for relaxation through direct skin contact.
