Tea tree oil has been used as a traditional herbal remedy because it is believed to treat acne, nail fungus or athlete’s foot, but there is little evidence to support this use. A 2015 Cochrane systematic review of complementary acne treatments found that a single low-quality study showed benefit compared to placebo.
